Dear Client,
The winter is far behind us
and with flowers blooming and temperatures warming it's becoming more and more
noticeable that summer is just around the corner. We have had a number of
clients reach out to us most recently to help them get their bodies into shape
for the summer.
To help them get there we have been able to
offer a
number of new classes in addition to our regular Pilates and Yoga options. Not
only are we bringing back Bruno's Bootcamps and Full Body Blast classes, but we
are adding a Monday night Pilates Yoga Fusion and Sunday morning Core Vinyasa
classes. In fact, we are even offering a FREE CORE VINYASA CLASS on Sunday, May
4th.
Incidentally,
it has been a full year since we launched our MindBodyOnline system.
We've heard client after client send us their positive feedback on the system.
We though we'd include in the newsletter a quick refresher on how to use the
system as well as a link to QuickGuide that you can use as a cheat-sheet if you
ever get stuck!
We look forward to you swinging by and partaking in some of
our newest offerings.
I hope to see you soon in our studio,
Deborah Harris

Our Newest Class: Core Vinyasa
By Dina Smodlaka
|
|
Ready to get fit but don’t have time for TWO classes?
This class blends both regular yoga and classic
Pilates moves to give you a yoga PLUS core workout in one flow (Vinyasa) class.
Strengthen your abdominal muscles as well as
stretch and tone
all the key areas of the body.
It’s twice the workout in one!
The Yoga side of this fun, yet challenging
class is centered on basic postures, breathing techniques and alignment,
bringing about heightened body awareness and the
calming sensation of linking your movements with breathing.
The Pilates focus
of the class will firm and strengthen all key
stomach and abdominal muscles for better posture, a sleeker waistline and
improved overall health.
By working and strengthening these muscles, you will
feel taller, look leaner and work on improving balance; this will help stabilize
you in more challenging yoga postures such as Headstand.
Since your core is not only your stomach – you will
sculpt, tone and lengthen your legs, arms and back muscles with moves taught in
the traditional Pilates manner for improved overall health.
These specific moves and sequences will be the most
fun you’ll ever have working out and with so many moves, props and
modifications, you will never be bored! As Joseph Pilates said, “These exercises
are for THE BODY.” You’ll look and feel great!
Don’t believe me?
My name is Dina and what I’m about to tell you is
the truth.
I used to hate exercise, smoked almost two packs of
cigarettes a day and just didn’t feel good about myself.
When I found Yoga and Pilates I was hooked – after
one class each! I
have now dropped 30 pounds, quit smoking and look and feel better than ever.
My blood pressure and cholesterol are down and I
have a renewed enthusiasm for getting and staying in shape.
Come join me here at Premier Pilates on
Sunday, May 4th and I challenge you to tell me you don’t LOVE this class!
It will be ABSOLUTELY FREE for that
one day, so what do you have to lose?
Hope to see you all there!!!!
Namaste…
Dina

OUR TWO NEWEST
INSTRUCTORS:
Dina Smodlaka and Kumi Dikengil
|
Prior to becoming involved
with yoga, I worked in the business world for almost 22 years.
While I enjoyed it, I always longed to do something that was meaningful and
helpful to others.
When I discovered
yoga, realized my love for it and how beneficial it was for better health, I
quickly saw that becoming an instructor would be the best way to realize my
goal.
I have been practicing yoga for nearly five years now
and it has had a tremendously positive impact on my life.
My main goal lies in sharing my love of yoga with others and in helping them
realize their optimal mental, physical and spiritual health potential.
I truly enjoy teaching therapeutic yoga to individuals
with mental, physical or learning disabilities or illness to provide comfort and
relief by experiencing the soothing and healing benefits of yoga.
In order to give back to the community and to truly help those in need, I
volunteer my time to lead a weekly yoga therapy program to patients suffering
moderate to severe brain injuries at JFK/Hartwyck Rehabilitation center at Oak
Tree in Edison.Namaste….
Dina Lorraine Smodlaka
Dina will begin by teaching the Core Vinyasa Class on Sundays, and is already
available for private instruction.

We figured you might also be
interested in learning a thing or two about our newest Pilates instructor, Kumi
Dikengil.
Kumi is a New Jersey native who
left the state for a brief hiatus while she was getting her education.
She started her education at NYU
where she obtained a BFA in Dance, which she followed up by getting a
post-baccalaureate in Health.
From there she was on to Chicago
where she received extensive Pilates training at Physical Mind Institute. While
out there she has held in a number of positions involving teaching Pilates in
group and private settings. She has taught classes on the Pilates Mat, Reformer,
Cadillac, Wunda Chair and the Barrels.
Kumi returned to New Jersey to
pursue a doctorate in Physical Therapy. She brings with her to the studio a keen
focus on injury prevention and strengthening routines geared to each
individual client. Her PT and Dance background serve her well as does her
intimate knowledge of human anatomy.
Kumi is
going to start teaching Pilates at the studio on Saturdays in May and will
add more availability throughout the summer.

FINDING YOUR OWN PRIVATE PRACTICE IN A GROUP CLASS!
by Carly Hamlette
|
|
Private lessons are a terrific way to experience a one-on-one session that is
completely catered to your body. But, in between those private lessons, you may
want to participate in one of the many group classes at Premier Pilates & Yoga.
The Tower class, duet classes, and our Yoga and Pilates mat classes are all
great compliments to regular private lessons. But can you find your own private
practice while in a group class? Yes!
Read
our five tips on how you can get the most out of a group class:
-
When
looking around a group class you can see a beautiful variety of people. We
all have various strengths, body types, and likes. Yet, all you have to do
is listen to what your body tells you.
-
Don’t be uncomfortable asking for modifications if a movement doesn’t feel
right to you.
|
-
Try
not to match what the others in the class are doing, and instead focus on
finding your own edge, not somebody else’s.

-
Honor what you can do and focus on the possibility of going further.
-
Don’t get frustrated! Know that with regular practice, even the most
challenging of movements will improve.
All
these tips will allow you to enjoy a wonderful private class in a group
setting.
Most importantly, enjoy the private time you have with your mind, body, and
spirit! |
