Dear Client,
With the seasons
changing once again, we leave the spring behind and enter the hot summer months.
As the kids finish school, begin camp, and vacation season begins in the
earnest, life will likely get even more busy. The beach will call on the
weekends and the time for oneself will be in very short order.
With this overabundance
of activity it is more essential than ever to keep the focus on what is truly
important in life: family, friends, and most importantly health. We feel that to
maintain the positive changes in our lives it is important to stay with the
routines that nourish our bodies and souls: healthful eating, adequate sleep,
and regular exercise.
We include in this
newsletter a nice article that we hope will inspire you to continue on the path
of physical health and well-being.
I
look forward to seeing you soon in the studio,
Deborah Harris

From poolside barbecues to long days at the beach,
there's no shortage of activities during the precious summer months. Miss a few workouts and your fit body will start
to slip away faster than the outgoing tide. So when it's finally time to bare
all, how can you maintain your fitness or weight loss gains if there's so much
else to do besides exercising?
Here's our top ten list on how to stay healthy and
fit this summer without giving up anything you love.
-
Drink as much water as possible:
Don't get caught in the soda, juice or flavored coffee trap. During warm
weather your body needs additional hydration. Water is also a natural
appetite suppressant, and most times your hunger is your body asking for
water - not food.
- Eat light: Hot temps can
significantly reduce your appetite. Be sure to eat light, but well-rounded
and nutritious meals, throughout the day and don't make a habit of chowing
down high-fat nutritionally-bare foods. When the consensus is burgers and
fries, opt for
light open sandwiches and salad.
- Play for exercise: It
keeps you up and active, without the necessity of training to exhaustion.
- Walk, don't ride: As long
as the mercury hasn't climbed to dangerous levels (above 90 degrees), make a
habit of leaving the car at home whenever possible. If you're consistent,
the extra caloric output will be much more than you can generate by
exercising.
- Spend time on the yard:
Don't underestimate the amount of physical exertion it takes to landscape.
Mowing the lawn, raking the leaves and planting flowers are all great forms
of exercise if approached with the right mindset. Keep your pace brisk while
working and you'll be sure to generate a good sweat.
|
- Workout early morning:
Take advantage of the cool morning air if you like to walk or run outdoors.
Get outside before the heat of the day has a chance to fry both you and the
surface you'll be running on. You could do this alone, or better yet, in a
group with friends or family.
-
Protect your beauty:
If exercising outside, wear sun-block. No reason not to. Just do it!
- Day at the beach: Get up
and move around when at the beach or picnicking. A long walk in the sand or
game of beach volleyball will provide plenty of stimulation to your leg
muscles and give you an extra caloric burn.
- Stay consistent: To the
extent possible try and stay true to your year-round routine. If you are
used to taking a Yoga Class or doing private Pilates sessions, ignore the
call of the siren that calls you to skip them. Consistency in exercise is
the universal key to long-term weight loss and maintenance.
- 20-Minute Summer Slim Down:
Develop a short, but effective mini-program that can be done in 20 minutes
or less. A program such as this will be enough to hold you over for a week
or two when you can't perform your regular exercise routine

YOGA FOR ALL BODIES WORKSHOP - Come as you are!
By
Lisa Brand, RYT
|
|
Have you ever felt
you needed to be a certain size or weight to practice Yoga? Perhaps,
you’ve thought you’re just not the right “type”? If you have ever felt this
way, you are not alone. Most people who want to learn Yoga, fear they will
be judged or feel intimidated to practice in a Studio setting.
This class will be geared for “Every Body” in a comfortable, non-judgmental,
friendly atmosphere. Lisa Brand RYT, will share with you her experience
and knowledge to transform your thinking. Lisa will show you modifications and
provide you with the tools you need, to feel secure enough to begin a daily
practice. There will be an hour-long class, followed by a half-hour
discussion relevant to finding your comfort level on and off the mat.
Some of the topics that will be discussed and explored are conscious
thinking, daily meditations and holistic nutritional choices.
Lisa’s understanding of weight challenges started ten years ago during her first
pregnancy.
With an overwhelming 60-pound weight gain, Lisa had a long road ahead of her.
Having practiced Yoga throughout her life as a “fit” person, she gained valuable
insight on how to make modifications and still reap the benefits.
She understands the limitations that challenge our bodies and welcomes everyone
to join her for a wonderful yoga experience.
