Vinyasa Yoga is a series of
flowing yoga poses that emphasize strength and flexibility. It it a vigorous,
fitness-based approach to yoga. This
form of yoga has the potential to tone you and give you a full body workout,
promoting mental stability and releasing tension and anxiety.
In “Yoga For
Everyone” Class, Thursday nights at 6 PM, there is an
extra encouragement for all types of people to attend.
By not specifying a
level, we welcome everyone who will learn from each other, free from judgment.
Your instructor will determine your level and will to modify or help you
deepen each exercise and stretch based on that. Toni will make sure that each person gets what they
seek
individually, while experiencing the atmosphere and recognition of humanity that
comes with practicing in a group class setting.
You will leave feeling refreshed and
renewed. Come try this wonderful class Thursdays at 6PM.

Pilates
is an exceptional exercise technique for core strengthening, flexibility, and
developing a lean, strong physique. Pilates best trains the seven physical
performance factors: posture, balance, mobility/flexibility, stability,
coordination, functional strength and endurance. For elite athletes, theses
skills are essential; but just about everyone will benefit from enhancing these.
Women have gravitated towards
Pilates because of the positive impact of the technique on the spinal
instability, rotated pelvis and knock-knees due to the inherent issues of a body
designed to accommodate childbearing.

Most
men have different issues. They have limited flexibility, weak pelvic floor
and postural muscles, which eventually leads to injury.
There is a growing interest among men in Pilates. Many professional football,
basketball and alpine ski athletes are practicing Pilates. Tiger Woods, perhaps the
greatest golfer of all time has incorporated Pilates into his training program.
Most
men who exercise regularly are strong but very tight. They have built the body
from the “outside” and not from the “inside” as is done in Pilates. Some men
will say that even though they have been lifting weights for 20 years there is
still something missing. They are absolutely right - it’s called flexibility! |
Most
men have incredibly tight calf and hamstring muscles and are frequently even
unable to sit straight
with their legs outstretched. Although strength training is very important,
lengthening the muscles through stretching is just as critical. That is exactly
where Pilates can help. It's effects on enhancing flexibility and loosening up
the tight muscles lead to a leaner, healthier, and more relaxed
body.
With
that said, Yoga
is the ideal compliment to Pilates, and we have a number of men who combine the
two to obtain the best results. It's been refreshing to see how quickly men
realize that Yoga and Pilates are not nearly as easy as they thought.
So, could Pilates & Yoga be
the two
perfect techniques for getting most men to exercise regularly? We think so, as
do many of our male clients!
P.S. We are contemplating adding a Men's' Only
Yoga class in the morning. Please email us if you know of someone who'd be
interested in such a class. |
